Paragon Software’s Hard Disk Manager saves critical IT resources at Boise State University

Boise State University’s TRiO Educational Talent Search and TRiO Upward Bound Programs selected Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager (HDM) to save time and resources to deploy and/or reimage desktop systems.

Boise State University’s TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS) and Upward Bound programs provide outreach and assistance to first-generation college bound and low-income students. The programs maintain ten to twelve off-site classrooms with three to five computers each, requiring regular reimaging.

After researching a software options, Corey Simpson, IT coordinator for Boise State University’s ETS and Upward Bound program, scheduled a demonstration of Paragon’s HDM.

“We needed to decrease the amount of time we were spending on reimaging machines,” said Simpson. “One of the features I looked for in a solution was the ability to process multiple restores on the network — Paragon was the only vendor offering the features I needed as well as disk partition and other disk management tools.”

Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 Gives the Boot to Windows 8 Booting Problems

Already the most comprehensive tool on the market, Hard Disk Manager now delivers the most advanced Storage Spaces support, new UEFI-Switch and Boot Media Builder features, plus much more!

Paragon Software announces the release of a new major update to both Hard Disk Manager 12 Suite and Hard Disk Manager 12 Professional, ensuring the safest and most up-to-date Windows 8 user experience possible. With the release of Windows 8 64-bit and Windows Server 2012, UEFI has become standard, delivering new options and adding flexibility to the booting process and the fine-tuning of hardware use. Paragon’s advanced UEFI support solves booting problems that may arise during migration or restoration from an old to a new hard disk due to a change in port connection. All necessary changes to Windows Boot Manager will be made, and the system will reboot without any manual intervention. To simplify the use of systems with multiple volumes, Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 also includes a new UEFI-Switch feature that allows the user to define which boot entry should be used.

The Storage Spaces feature of Windows 8 is an important step to easy implementation of thin provisioning or storage resiliency, helping users to use existing hard drives and to combine them for saving videos or other large files. Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 can perform all maintenance and configuration operations with volumes on Storage Spaces, be it backup, partitioning or deletion. Additionally, the release of this major update delivers a new version of Paragon Boot Media Builder, which creates a 64-Bit UEFI-compatible boot volume that can be written on a DVD, a USB flash drive or saved as an ISO-file for virtual environments.

New and updated features include:
1. Full Windows 8 support
2. Support for GPT/UEFI configurations to successfully clone, migrate, or restore a 64-bit Windows configured to the UEFI-based boot mode
3. Enhanced physical-to-physical and physical-to-virtual functionality
4. Boot Corrector — allows the user to perform UEFI switch in order to define a bootable operating system in case of several OSs hosted on one UEFI machine
5. Storage Spaces support
6. Advanced Paragon Boot Media Builder (BMB) add-on:
• BMB is now compatible with the Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 8, allowing the user to build RCD based on Windows PE 4.0
• BMB creates a 64-Bit UEFI-compatible boot volume that can be written on a DVD, a USB flash drive or saved as an ISO-file for virtual environments.

Piecing together the cross-platform puzzle

Why is storage management subsystem improvement not yet on Google’s roadmap? The open-source community has been addressing storage interoperability issues for more than ten years. Is there an answer?

Gadgets running on a spectrum of platforms will be purchased this holiday season, and they don’t always work together seamlessly. Your friend’s favorite Windows PC program won’t run well on your Mac, the app you love on your iOS doesn’t have an Android equivalent and, to top it off, your mobile devices won’t work flawlessly with your laptops. With the increasing popularity of Android devices, which have captured 68 percent of the mobile market share to date and are expanding into other areas of the consumer electronics market, users need an easy and reliable way to interchange data between Android devices and Macs or PCs.

A new Paragon Drive Copy 12 Professional was reviewed by PC ADVISOR

The migration solution from Paragon Software was rated with 4 stars out of 5!

The verdict: Paragon Drive Copy 12 Professional does pretty much what it claims, copying drives and components of drives from one place to another. There’s nothing radically different about version 12, other than Windows 8 support and a couple of extra virtualisation options. It’s well priced, though and can be a big time-saver when upgrading or protecting your system.
